Schlenkerla a la Grodziskie

Homage to the old Grätzer Rauchbier by Schlenkerla/Heller-Bräu Trum

Piwo Grodziskie is a traditional beer specialty from Poland. This historic beer style takes its name from the town of Grätz—or Grodzisk Wielkopolski—located southwest of Poznań. This highly drinkable, top-fermented beer was brewed and enjoyed there as early as the Middle Ages. Over the course of the 20th century, however, it was increasingly forgotten and eventually disappeared entirely. It was only with the rise of the Polish craft beer movement that Grodziskie made a well-deserved comeback: in 2010, the Pinta brewery breathed new life into this ancient style. In 2025, Grodziskie celebrates its 15th anniversary. To mark the occasion, Schlenkerla has created its own interpretation of this Polish classic: "Aecht Schlenkerla Rauchbier" (smoked beer) in the Grodziskie style. For this, the brewery dries wheat malt in its own malthouse over an open oak-wood fire. It also incorporates Lubelski aroma hops, which provide a fruity, aromatic hop character. The result is a bottom-fermented, highly drinkable beer featuring a subtle smoky aroma, fruity hop notes, fine carbonation, and a very moderate alcohol content.
